Phentermine is an appetite suppressant. It works by affecting central nervous system. The drug is used in treatment of obesity. Phentermine is usually combined with diet and exercise.

You mustn't take Phentermine together with other diet medications. Using the medicine together with fenfluramine (Phen-Fen) or dexfenfluramine (Redux) can produce a serious side effect such as a rare fatal lung disorder called pulmonary hypertension.

Warnings/ Precautions

You mustn't take Phentermine together with an MAO inhibitor (isocarboxazid (Marplan), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), rasagiline (Azilect), tranylcypromine (Parnate), phenelzine (Nardil)) or if you have taken one of these drugs within the past 14 days. That may lead to serious and even lethal consequences.

Do not take Phentermine together with other diet medications. It can cause serious side effects.

Before taking the medicine inform your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs or if you have: anxiety disorder; arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries); diabetes; heart disease or high blood pressure; glaucoma; if you have a history of drug or alcohol abuse; an overactive thyroid; epilepsy or another seizure disorder.

How taken

Phentermine side effects

Phentermine can cause some side effects. The less serious side effects are: diarrhea or constipation; feeling nervous or anxious; dry mouth or an unpleasant taste in your mouth; insomnia; itching.

Drug interactions

Tell your doctor about any drugs you are taking, especially if you are using: antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil, Etrafon), desipramine (Norpramin), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), clomipramine (Anafranil), nortriptyline (Pamelor), amoxapine (Ascendin), protriptyline (Vivactil), or trimipramine (Surmontil); antidepressants such as citalopram (Celexa), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), escitalopram (Lexapro), paroxetine (Paxil), or sertraline (Zoloft); insulin or diabetes medication you take orally; medicines to treat high blood pressure; guanadrel (Hylorel), guanethidine (Ismelin).

Miss dose

If you have missed a dose, take the medication as soon as you remember. But if it is time for the next dose, skip the missed one.

Storage
